PUBLIC OUTREACH AND EDUCATION

THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC PLANNING SECTION ADMINISTERS THE NOAA CORAL REEF CONSERVATION PROGRAM (CRCP) AND THE DOI CORAL REEF INITIATIVE (CRI) WHICH PROVIDE FUNDING FOR CORAL REEF CONSERVATION PROJECTS ON GUAM. THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE PUBLIC OUTREACH AND EDUCATION PROJECTS THAT THE BUREAU HAS ASSISTED IN THROUGH CRCP AND CRI FUNDS.

GUARDIANS OF THE REEF PROGRAM

THE GUARDIANS OF THE REEF IS A PROGRAM IN COLLABORATION WITH THE BUREAU OF STATISTICS AND PLANS AND THE GUAM DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION THAT TRAINS PARTICIPATING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO CONDUCT PRESENTATIONS TO THIRD GRADE STUDENTS IN A CLASSROOM SETTING REGARDING CORAL REEFS, THEIR IMPORTANCE TO OUR ENVIRONMENT, THE THREATS THEY FACE, AND SOME ACTIONS THEY CAN TAKE TO HELP PRESERVE THESE VALUABLE RESOURCES

PIG HUNTING DERBY & PORK IN THE PARK

THE PIG HUNTING DERBY AND PORK IN THE PARK COOK-OFF IS HOSTED ANNUALLY BY THE BUREAU TOGETHER WITH PARTNERING AGENCIES AS AN EVENT TO PROVIDE A VENUE TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT INVASIVE SPECIES, FERAL UNGULATES, AND HOW THEY NEGATIVELY AFFECT OUR ENVIRONMENT, AS WELL AS TEACHING SAFE HUNTING PRACTICES.

GUAM NATURE ALLIANCE

THE BUREAU PROVIDES ASSITANCE TO THE GUAM NATURE ALLIANCE WITH PROVIDING STAFF SUPPORT, BUS TRANSPORTATION, OR SUPPLIES THROUGH FUNDING FROM THE NOAA CORAL REEF CONSERVATION GRANT PROGRAM AND THE DOI CORAL REEF INITIATIVE GRANTS.

OUTREACH PRESENTATIONS TO SCHOOLS

MARINE MANIA PUPPET SHOWS

THE MARINE MANIA CLUB OF GEORGE WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL (GWHS) CONDUCTED EDUCATIONAL PUPPET SHOWS AT CARBULLIDO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON OCTOBER 16, 2015 AND AT AGANA HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON DECEMBER 11, 2015. THE PUPPET SHOWS PRESENTED TOPICS OF CORAL REEF CONSERVATION TO 4TH AND 5TH GRADERS OF THE SCHOOLS. BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR THE PUPPET SHOWS WERE COORDINATED THROUGH THE BUREAU OF STATISTICS AND PLANS AND FUNDED BY THE FY 13-14 CRCP.
