The Guam International Coastal Cleanup has become a landmark event in our island community for decades, drawing participants from local organizations, schools, businesses, and individuals who share a passion for environmental conservation and stewardship. With the support of these dedicated volunteers, we have made significant strides in keeping our oceans clean and safe for marine life.
Guam first joined the Ocean Conservancy in this worldwide effort to prevent pollution with three sites: Ylig Bay, Agat Shore, and Dungca’s Beach with only 450 volunteers. Guam is now in its 30th year with over 25 sites and over 4,000 volunteers collecting several tons of trash from Guam’s beaches.
The Guam International Coastal Cleanup is organized and led by the Guam Coastal Management Program with generous Site Leader Volunteers who organize and manage each of the cleanup site locations. In cooperation with the Guam Department of Education (GDOE), students can earn valuable service-learning hours for participating.
The 25 cleanup site locations are found in the registration form with a show time of 6:00 am to 7:00 am for most sites.
Registered volunteers will receive gloves, trash bags, and a free Coastal Cleanup T-shirt at check-in (while supplies last). Minors registered under a group must be accompanied by their registered chaperones to participate and receive supplies. Please wear appropriate clothing for outdoors, sunblock, and bring your refillable water bottle.
In order to improve the volunteer experience, we are requiring all volunteers to pre-register for the event through the guamtime.net website. There is NO on-site registration on the day of the event. Unregistered individuals wanting to volunteer will be turned away. The number of tickets for each site will be capped based on the severity of trash in the area and the number of volunteers needed for each site.
A WAIVER FORM IS ATTACHED TO GUAMTIME.NET REGISTRATION TICKET PDF THAT IS SENT TO YOU ONCE YOU REGISTER. YOU CAN ALSO PRINT AND SIGN THE FOLLOWING WAIVER FORM AND BRING WITH YOU ON THE CLEANUP DAY TO EXPEDITE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS.
GICC 2024 encourages all participants to use the Clean Swell app to record each item of trash collected, which helps scientists and advocates around the world tackle ocean trash at a global scale.
First download the Clean Swell app on your iPhone or Android device. Next, open Clean Swell and “Start a New Cleanup” and name the cleanup up “GUAM-ICC” The data you collect will instantaneously upload to Ocean Conservancy’s global ocean trash database. Anytime, anywhere, you can use Clean Swell to see the impact you’ve had on our ocean and get involved in the fight for trash free seas. Clean Swell® makes it easy for you to become a champion for our ocean with ways to get involved in our Action Center and share your great impact with friends and family.

Guam SandFest 2024
Guam SandFest 2024 is a dynamic, family-friendly event that celebrates the beauty of Guam’s coastal environment while promoting environmental awareness and community engagement. Organized by the Guam Coastal Management Program and funded by a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Guam SandFest 2024 brings together people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in a day-long celebration of creativity and conservation.
The event’s main goal is to raise public awareness of critical environmental issues such as beach litter, shoreline erosion, and the importance of green infrastructure. Through a combination of beach and shoreline cleanups, in partnership with the 30th Anniversary of the Guam International Coastal Cleanup, attendees will learn practical ways to protect our island’s natural resources and strengthen community resilience with educational booths, workshops, and environmentally- themed activities.
One of the highlights of Guam SandFest 2024 is the Sand Sculpting Competition, where individuals, teams, schools, corporate groups, and community organizations compete to create impressive sand sculptures with coastal and marine themes. Professional sand sculptors from off-island will provide on-site demonstrations and workshops, adding a unique artistic dimension to the event and inspiring attendees to connect with nature in a creative way.
Guam SandFest 2024 also serves as a platform for government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations to share their environmental programs and initiatives, promoting collaboration and collective action for a more sustainable future.
Overall, Guam SandFest 2024 is more than just an event—it’s a movement that empowers individuals and communities to take ownership of their environment, embrace their cultural heritage, and make a positive impact on future generations. It’s a day filled with fun, creativity, and education, all contributing to a cleaner and more vibrant Guam.
