General Information & Registration

When and where is the cleanup taking place?

• Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026

• Time: Show time for most sites is 6:30 AM; cleanup officially starts at 7:00 AM. Please check the Cleanup Sites & Contacts Tab for more information, as some sites have an earlier start time.

• Locations: Over 25 sites across Guam.

How do I register for the event?

• You must pre-register online via Eventbrite. Search “32nd Guam International Coastal Cleanup” on Eventbrite, browse the list of available sites, select your preferred location, and reserve your spot.

Can I show up on the day of the event without registering?

• No. To ensure volunteer safety, proper supply allocation, and site capacity management, there is no on-site registration. All participants must register through Eventbrite prior to the event.

Why are there capacity caps on cleanup sites?

• Each cleanup location has a set volunteer cap based on physical space, safety considerations, and the estimated volume of debris. If your preferred site is full, please select another location from the 25+ available sites across the island.

Liability Waiver & Minor Safety Requirements

Is a liability waiver required to participate?

• Yes. All participants—volunteers, site leaders, and coordinators—must sign a Liability Waiver and Express Assumption of Risk form during online registration on Eventbrite.

• The waiver covers inherent risks associated with beach/coastal cleanups (e.g., sharp objects, sun exposure, rough terrain, marine conditions) and includes a media release for promotional photos/videos taken during the event.

What are the requirements for volunteers under 18 years old?

• Parent/Guardian Signature: Minors cannot register or sign the liability waiver on their own. A parent or legal guardian must complete the Eventbrite waiver on the minor’s behalf.

• Adult Supervision: All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent, legal guardian, or designated adult chaperone at all times during the cleanup. The event organizers do not provide childcare or minor supervision.

Can school or youth groups attend together?

• Yes, but with prerequisites: Youth groups, clubs, and student delegations must ensure every individual minor has a signed Parent/Guardian Consent and Waiver Form on file before arriving. Group leaders must maintain appropriate adult-to-student chaperone ratios at their assigned cleanup site.

Preparation & Event Day Details

What should I bring and wear?

• Wear: Comfortable clothes, a hat, sun protection (reef-safe sunscreen), and sturdy closed-toe shoes (required for safety).

• Bring: A reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. 

• Provided: Registered volunteers will receive gloves and trash bags upon check-in with their Site Leader.

How do students earn Service-Learning Hours?

• High school students (both GDOE and private) can earn service-learning hours by participating. Check in with your Site Leader on the morning of the event to log attendance and present required verification forms.

What happens if it rains?

• The cleanup is a rain-or-shine event. In the case of severe weather or high surf advisories, safety updates will be issued on the Bureau of Statistics and Plans (BSP) website and official social media channels.

Why are we asked to log the trash we pick up?

• GICC is part of the Ocean Conservancy’s global effort. Cataloging the items collected provides vital data used by researchers and policymakers to identify sources of marine debris, curb single-use plastics, and develop local environmental regulations.
