Census Bureau Announces Schedule for Demographic Profile and Demographic and Housing Characteristics File for Island Areas

The U.S. Census Bureau announced that the next round of data from the 2020 Island Areas Censuses will be released in October 2022. The new data will be released as a Demographic Profile and will provide the four U.S. Island Areas — American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands — with a set of basic demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics for each island area and limited, lower levels of geography.

Additional characteristics and levels of geography will be available in subsequent data products. The Census Bureau previously released population and housing counts for each of the U.S. Island Areas in October 2021. The Census Bureau announced the following schedule for the Island Areas Censuses data products:

  • Demographic Profile planned for release October 2022 – provides basic demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics for limited geographies.
  • Demographic and Housing Characteristics File planned for release July 2023 – provides detailed demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics for a variety of geographies.

The Census Bureau is still determining the schedule for the Detailed Cross Tabulations. These tabulations provide additional detailed tables that cross data about people or housing units by other demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics. The available geographies for these cross tabulations are also being determined.

More Information

The 2020 Island Areas Censuses provides a wide range of demographic, social, economic and housing information to meet the U.S. Island Areas’ data needs. Other surveys, such as the American Community Survey (ACS), are not conducted in the island areas. Therefore, the Census Bureau used a long-form census questionnaire similar to the ACS questionnaire used in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

More information about the data products — including the planned subjects and available geographies — is available on the 2020 Island Areas Censuses Data Products webpage.

The Census Bureau also recently announced schedule information for stateside data products from the 2020 Census. More information on the stateside products is available on the About 2020 Census Data Products webpage.

Website Restoration Update

As part of a recent global cyber incident targeting cPanel-hosted servers, bsp.guam.gov was among the millions of domains compromised worldwide. Unfortunately, most file downloads and embedded content hosted on the site could not be restored.

The Bureau of Statistics and Plans is currently restoring our site and securely re-uploading all files, data sets, and media—including vital public materials and reports, e.g., for the Guahan 2050 Sustainability Plan—that were linked prior to the attack.

We anticipate the full restoration of the website to be completed in a months time. More recently published files will be prioritized and will be available in a shorter time frame.  We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work toward full restoration of BSP’s extensive digital repository of reports, plans, and data.
